The NTA is run entirely by volunteers in Australia.  Over 90% of any donation directly finances poverty alleviation projects in Indonesia. For every $1 donated, AusAID currently adds over $4.  A donation of $100 climbs to over $500. Prices below are for the supplies necessary to build the relevant items, including any transport costs.

  • $110 provides one household toilet
  • $180 provides on-the-spot training in crop and livestock management
  • $220 provides a set of two toilets for a school in Flores
  • $280 provides hand-weaving materials for a group of ten women in order to generate income
  • $550 provides a water well to benefit an average of 15 households with 5 occupants.
  • $670 provides a boat and motor for a community of seaweed farmers
  • $780 provides a pump and motor to assist in the irrigation of crops which are then sold locally as a means of income
  • $1110-$1330 provides a water tank (in areas where ground water is too deep for well-digging), providing drinking water for 5 households
  • $2700 constructs 100 metres of road for isolated villages, opening up trade routes and allowing for greater government recognition and support
  • $7490 provides 3 classrooms for a school. In 2002, classrooms made of leaves were blown down in a cyclone, and properly re-built by the NTA

Donating your time and creativity

Paid position vacant - Executive Officer.

Over the years of the NTA's operation there have been a number of successful fundraisers, some held officially by members of the NTA and some by members of the general public keen to lend a hand. The goal of these fundraisers is to raise awareness of the poverty in Eastern Indonesia and the NTA's efforts to alleviate it through local projects, while raising the money to get these projects off the ground.

So if you're passionate about the issues facing residents of Nusa Tenggara Timur, you can help simply by spreading the word - to your friends, family, school, workmates - or by running an event in your town. Some examples of past successes include:

  • Festival Indonesia: Run annually by the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra, this celebration of Indonesian culture has repeatedly proven to be a great day out for the whole family. The NTA runs a stall here, and last year raised over $900 through the efforts of volunteers
  • Fyshwick stall: Yearly fundraising stall held at the Fyshwick markets; last year raised over $1500
  • Film nights: Sponsored by and held at Dendy Cinemas
  • Narrabundah UN Day '08: Following a visit by John Bowden (NTA member), Narrabundah College decided to donate the profits - around $2000 - of its annual multicultural fundraising day to the NTA
