The Indonesian province of East Nusa Tenggara is just a few hundred kilometres from Australia, but a world away.

On average, its people live on less than US$1 per day, and over a third of the population is affected by malnutrition. Illiteracy, infant mortality and life expectancy are among the worst in Indonesia.

East Nusa Tenggara has a climate more like the seasonal droughts and floods of the Northern Territory than the year-round lushness of Bali or Java. As a result, the people of East Nusa Tenggara (many of whom rely on subsistence agriculture) are faced with harsh conditions for growing crops and livestock.

The NTA takes a grassroots approach to supporting the well-being of the people of East Nusa Tenggara. We provide small-scale funding and loans to local farming collectives, schools and families to invest in projects that will improve their quality of life and ensure that the essentials of clean water, good schools and productive agriculture are possible for everyone.
