February 2010
NTA board meeting
Activities for the year began to get into swing in early February with various meetings held to discuss plans for work in 2010.
Plans for the year were discussed at the first board meeting for 2010 held on 15 February. Highlights of the board meeting include the following.
- ACFID. Various matters in connection with NTA's links with ACFID (the Australian NGO umbrella organisation for aid-related NGOs) were discussed. ACFID has issued a revised Code of Conduct which the board noted.
- Volunteers. A number of people have expressed interest in working as volunteers for NTA in the past month or so. The board discussed how NTA can best make arrangements to suit the individual interests of volunteers.
- Finance. Stephen Barry, Treasurer of NTA, and Ian White, former Treasurer, presented a mid-year 2009-2010 report on NTA's income and expenditure. At end-January, while there was a shortfall in income for the first half of the year, the overall outlook for the full financial year looked sound. Sufficient funding is available to cover all planned disbursements and also to employ a proposed Administrative Officer for one day per week.
- Work in the field. NTA President Colin Barlow reported on ways to ensure that the board has good oversight of NTA activities in the field. The board is keen to focus less on specific activities and more on broad strategy. Attention to agreed KPIs (key performance indicators) will be part of the strategic approach.
- 2009 projects in NTT. In reporting on activities, Colin Barlow noted that almost all 2009 microprojects have now been implemented. The Indonesian Department of Education has indicated that it will cover the cost of staff for the four kindergartens that the NTA established last year.
- Membership and Marketing. Peter Dawson, Chair of the M&M Committee, reported on marketing plans for 2010. Activities will focus on expanding the pool of supporters and members, and on raising funds. The Committee has been working on our new Two Hundred Tanks campaign (see below).
- Annual Report. The Annual Report for 2009 will soon be finalized (we have been waiting for an audited version of the financial accounts to be available).
