The Bida Mitan Weaving Collective in Takaplagar village, just outside Maumere, Flores, is a group of around 30 women who are working hard to preserve their traditional textile art - kain ikat. Click on the link below to learn more about the incredible skill of these women, and the efforts of organisations like the NTA: East Indonesia Aid to help them preserve their invaluable knowledge, and support their communities!
Field notes from our Operations Manager - Stephanie Heighes:
The training on natural dye was conducted in the Bida Mitan group from 6 to 7 July 2019. The trainer was Ibu Lutgardis with her assistant Ibu Yosephina (members of a different NTA group). A total of 40 women were trained and seemed very happy with the results. The women have learnt how to produce 10 different colours including different shades of blue, red, green and yellow.
